IKO Shingle Repair: The Miami Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in Miami typically runs $350 to $900 installed for a standard repair of 10 to 30 damaged shingles, and we stock IKO-compatible shingles on our trucks for same-week scheduling in most cases. Most owners discover the failure after a heavy afternoon storm: granules washing into the gutter, a shingle or two in the yard, or a water stain creeping across the ceiling. The most common culprit we see across Miami is wind-lifted shingles that never re-seal, followed by nail pops from the constant thermal cycling between air-conditioned attics and the July sun.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
We repair the full IKO residential lineup: Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, Royal Estate, and the Crowne Slate series. The compatibility gotcha with IKO is the sealant strip width. IKO’s Cambridge line uses a wider sealant strip than older Marathon shingles, so a leftover bundle from a previous homeowner’s repair can look fine and still fail to bond. You can identify your shingle by checking the manufacturer label on any unopened bundle in your garage or attic; if the bundle is long gone, measure the exposure. Cambridge and Dynasty both run a 5-5/8-inch exposure, while Royal Estate runs larger at 8 inches. For OEM versus aftermarket, we recommend OEM IKO shingles while your line is still in production because the granule blend and color match are factory-controlled. Once a line is discontinued, quality aftermarket equivalents from GAF or CertainTeed can be color-matched close enough for a repair, but we always show you the comparison in writing before we install anything. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with IKO.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter that look like coarse black sand. IKO shingles shed granules as they age, but a sudden heavy deposit usually means hail or wind scouring has stripped the protective layer. The shingle is now absorbing UV directly and will fail faster in Miami’s sun.
- Shingles that lift and don’t re-seal after a storm. The sealant strip has lost its tack, often because salt air and heat cycling have baked it out. Once a shingle won’t seal, every subsequent storm makes it flap harder and tear further.
- A dark, wavy pattern across one section of the roof. This is typically moisture trapped in the mat, known as blistering. In Miami’s humidity, a blistered IKO shingle is past saving and needs replacement before it leaks.
- Nail heads backing out, with the shingle above them slightly raised. The plywood deck expands and contracts with our wet-dry seasons, and undersized or overdriven nails eventually back out. Each exposed nail is a future entry point for wind-driven rain.
- A visible crack that runs the full length of the shingle. Thermal splitting happens when the shingle becomes too brittle to flex. You’ll see these cracks most often on south-facing slopes that take the direct Miami afternoon heat.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Miami, a standard IKO shingle repair runs $350 to $900 installed. The lower end covers a small cluster of 5 to 10 shingles in an easy-to-reach section; the upper end covers 20 to 30 shingles, ridge cap replacement, or work on a steep pitch where safety equipment and time add up. The price we quote is the price on the invoice, because Dylan Pace writes every scope of work in writing before we start, and the number doesn’t change at the door. Every IKO repair includes the shingles, the correct IKO-compatible nails, sealant, and full cleanup of the old material, plus our 365-Day Done Right Promise. That means if the repair fails within a year, we return and fix it at no charge. No trip fee for the second visit, no negotiation.

You can safely check a few things from the ground: count the missing shingles, note which roof slope they’re on, and take photos of any visible lifting. What you shouldn’t do is climb onto a Miami roof, especially a two-story in Brickell where the salt air has made the tile or shingle surface slicker than it looks. Roof work on any pitched surface carries real risk of serious falls, and we’d rather you stay on the ground. If you want to try a small repair yourself, the honest truth is that a bad sealant bond on an IKO shingle in our humidity will just fail again in a season. Call us at (850) 318-3769, and we’ll send a technician who can match the shingle, fix it with the right nails and sealant, and hand you a photo showing the work before we leave.
FAQs
In Miami’s heat and hurricane wind cycles, IKO shingles typically last 15 to 22 years, which is a few years less than their inland rating. Salt air and intense UV are the main aging factors we see along the Brickell corridor and coastal neighborhoods.
A single shingle can be repaired if the damage is limited to a corner tear or a nail pop, but once the mat beneath the granules is exposed or the shingle has cracked through, replacement is the only fix that lasts. If you’re unsure, call (850) 318-3769 and we’ll check it with a photo or a quick visit.
A standard repair of 10 to 20 shingles takes 2 to 3 hours on site, including setup, removal, replacement, and cleanup. Most Miami homeowners have us in and out the same day without needing to be home for the whole thing.
We stock the most common IKO lines on our trucks, including Cambridge and Dynasty, in the colorways we see most in Miami. If your specific color is discontinued or backordered, we’ll source a match and confirm the spec with you in writing before the repair.
